Users folders move issue.

Hello together,

Recently, we start suffering from lack of space on the system drive (C:\ drive) of one of our Windows 2012 servers. We decide to relocate (physically move) all user folders (%SystemDrive%\Users) to other location (D:\ drive) on the same server environment.
Is there a way this to be done automatically (script or tool), without affecting users environment and work processes?
The mentioned server work under normal terminal server environment, without AD. All users are connecting through RDP.

Hope for suitable solution for our case.

copy files to another directory (if exist, skip copy files, don't overwrite)

Hi Guys,

i have windows server 2012 on my servers.

i want to copy files from folder A to folder B using batch. but, i usually using 'copy', but this 'copy' will overwrite the files that exist in B folder.

so the question is, anybody know the script batch to copy files from A to B but it won't overwrite the files if exist, it means just copy files from folder A if not exist in folder B?

for example, in D:\Folder\ there are test1.txt, test2.txt, test3.txt. and in \\10.163.100.100\Folder\ there are test1.txt.

i want to make a batch that will copy test2, and test3 from D to 10.163.100.100, because test1 is already in there.

NB : i have moved this thread to HERE..

Thank you

DFSR.exe High CPU Usage

Hi,

I originally created a thread because of issues I was experiencing with image backups:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/560b2043-992c-44df-9e2b-74799b06d177/vss-writer-issues?forum=windowsbackup#560b2043-992c-44df-9e2b-74799b06d177

With further investigation, it's looking very likely that (somehow) DFS replication is causing this issue for some reason.

During "normal" operation at the moment, DFS Replication Service is using up to 70% of the CPU - in task manager.
As explained in my original thread, I can get a successful image backup (using 3rd party software and/or Windows Server Backup), thereafter, the snapshot phase seems to just hang in limbo - even though it never actually fails.

We've discovered that by stopping DFS replication, CPU usage returns to normal and we can achieve successful backups in succession without any issues.

What I'm effectively looking for at the moment is:

* Are there any known issues that would cause the DFS Replication Service to have such high CPU usage?

* Are there any known issues that would cause DFS to interfere with the Volume Shadow Copy Service, in this manner?

I don't suspect this issue is occurring because of high CPU usage, but, it's possible at this stage.

The server in question is currently up to date with patches, at least according to Windows Update, and any potential hotfixes I've tried seem to be installed through update roll-ups currently installed on this server.

Thank you, in advance

Adding a third drive to a 2-way Storage Space mirror

Apologies if this has been posted and I couldn't find it. I have a 2-way mirror with 2 x 2TB drives. I just added a third drive that is 4 TB. I can extend the storage out to the 4 GB capacity now, but is Storage Spaces going to mirror all of the 4 TB to the 2 x 2TB drives?

Unable to Access Resources Across Domains

I am currently having the issue where I cannot access shares on domain A from domain B. I am able to access shares on domain B from domain A. Both domains maintain separate Active Directories. When I get the prompt for credentials when I try to access the shares on domain A from domain B I get errors telling me that I have entered the wrong password and my account is locked out immediately.

The event ID's that I am getting are:

  • 4625 Unknown user name or bad password.
    Status: 0xc000006a
    Sub status: 0xc000006a
  • 4776
    Error Code: 0xc000006a
  • 4776
    Error Code: 0xc0000234

The username and password that are being entered are correct.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DFS Replication Issues from upstream to downstream server

Hello all.

I am in a bit of a conundrum as our Senior System Administrator left abruptly without any knowledge transfer, and with him left most of the knowledge of how our infrastructure is configured and setup.

Recently we noticed that our DFS replication has not been working correctly for a week or two.  It seems that all files that are put onto our downstream servers are replicating correctly up to our main SAN, however, files put onto the SAN are not replicating down to our site servers.  I verified this with a crude test:  creating a text file on our SAN and on a site server - the one created on the site server was present on the SAN within about a minute, while the file created on the SAN has not made its way down to the site server in over a day.

I looked at the event logs for DFSR and found event ID 5008 in particular keeps popping up:

The DFS Replication service failed to communicate with partner %SERVER% for replication group %Replication%. This error can occur if the host is unreachable, or if the DFS Replication service is not running on the server.

Partner DNS Address: %SERVER%

Optional data if available:
Partner WINS Address: %SERVER%
Partner IP Address: 10.x.x.x

The service will retry the connection periodically.

Additional Information:
Error: 1722 (The RPC server is unavailable.)

I've tried searching around a bit on this but couldn't find much useful info.  Already confirmed all RPC ports from source IP of the SAN to our facilities are unblocked.  And it was working about a month ago.

Any help, advice, or just simply pointing us in the right direction would be most helpful.

Compressed (zipped) folder file size limit?

In Windows 2008 Server R2(64bit), when Compressed (zipped) folder file size is over about 6GB, the error of "Compressed (zipped) folder invalid or Corrupted" occurs. Is it limit? I want to know the compressed (zipped) folder file size limit.

Thanks.

Increasing the security log with FSCT (File Server Capacity Tool).

I need to make an small system for Fault Reappearance.
I have been changing parameters in profile.cfg file of FSCT to meet the requirements below but it has never reached expectation.

# Requiremens
  - 500MB/min log should be written to the security log(eventlog)
  - Set volume D to audit sucess and failure events in Fileserver.
  - Set quota for the directory of security log(%SystemRoot%\System32\Config) in Fileserver.

# FSCT(v1.2) components
  - 2 clients
  - ActiveDirectory (created 3500 domain users for fsct test)
  - FSCT controller
  - File Server ( volume D: 200GB with audit of success and failure and Quota setting)
   (Windows Server 2012 R2 x 5 on AWS / Clients: c4.2xlargec, AD: t2.micro, Others: c4.xlarge)

# profile.cfg
 - wordfileopen 500
 - wordeditandsave 500

# result
 - security log 300MB/300sec
 - CPU utils (maximum) around 40%

I'm not sure increasing some values in profile.cfg would be efficient.

I'm also wondering security log would be bigger if I add more users in the domain.

DFS Read Only After Changing the Referral Order

Hi All,

I have set all my Targets to Site A  server  First  among all targets. Also replication was setup as Site A server is  a Primary.

Last week i just set one Target to become Primary in DR Site Server. Forgot to change the replication.

Now all the users are trying to access that share got "Read Only"

To fix this, right-click on each Folder Targets ->Properties -> General tab -> Share Permissions.... Make sure the permission are set up the same as Site A server.

Also disable the replication from Site A to DR.

Now i got following warning.

 What do i do now?

Have seen several other people with this issue.  Is there something that I am missing?  Had a disk fail, replaced it following the guidelines laid out.  The virtual disk will not repair, repair finishes in 1 second and the virtual disk stays in the degraded state.

Problem with I/O priority management

The performance tuning Guidlines for Windows Server 2008 R2, sais that we can disable the I/O priority management for a disk by setting to zero the following registry setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{Device GUID}\DeviceParameters\Classpnp\IdlePrioritySupported.

My problem is that such a registry edit in my server's registry does not exist. I have to create it? If yes how?

Pin a folder in SSD Tier?

Can pinning happen at the folder level?  Instead of just pinning one file at a time to an SSD tier, would I be able to pin a folder so that any file inside of the folder would inherit the pinning to the SSD?

DFS replication problems

I have a network with three sites - I will call them Site A, Site B, and Site C. Each site has a Windows 2012R2 domain controller. They are using DFS to replicate data. It has been in operation since last summer and has been working well. They recently had a DFSR DB corruption that caused DFS replication to stop working. I ended up starting from scratch - removed all replication groups and deleted D:\system volume information\dfsr folder on all three servers. I then used the process in https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/filecab/2013/08/21/dfs-replication-initial-sync-in-windows-server-2012-r2-attack-of-the-clones/ to create the replication group on Site A (the main office), preseed the data to Site B and Site C, export the DFSR DB from Site A to Site B and Site C, and then add Site B and Site C to the replication group. Replication is now working both ways between Site A and Site B and replication from Site C to Site A works but data will not replicate from Site A to Site C. If I check the backlog for Site A to Site C replication the first file listed is 'File name: VersionVectorTombstone'. Same goes for Site B to Site C replication. Inbound replication for Site C doesn't work. I had the same problem for Site A to Site B but a reboot of the server at Site B seems to have fixed it. I tried rebooting the server at Site C and it seemed to help for short time but then A to C replication stopped again and 'File name: VersionVectorTombstone' appeared at the top of the backlog list. The server at Site C is MUCH slower than the other two servers and the DFSR Service is still taking 50% of CPU time. I am wondering if it still working on catching up and this issue will eventually clear. Or... is there something I can do to get inbound replication to Site C working.

AD replication is working in all directions.

As you might imagine I have Googled this to the Nth degree and so far I have not found anything that helps me.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dan Harris

Add Folders NOT through the Dashboard - and have proper permissions, access, etc?

This may be hard to explain, you folks are always so helpful, so I'll try my best.  Here we go.

I have a server for my business, it is a Western Digital DS6100 running WSE 2012 R2.

Nightly I back up the ServerFolders (all sub-folders and files there) to two off-site NASs via FTP.  I use a third party program called SyncbackPro v7.  Wednesday night, for some unknown reason my server completely crashed and was unrecoverable.  WD is sending me a new server.

Here comes my question.  Syncback will restore all my Folders and all my files with a single click (I have all its profiles backed up, and the files on the NAS).  The problem is I have noticed if I add or create Folders through the Windows file explorer, and NOT through the Dashboard, then the folders appear to not be visible everywhere, and I'm not sure they have the proper permissions, etc.  Syncback will recreate the folders, but obviously that will be done as if I was using File Explorer, not the Dashboard.  Any suggestions on the best way to have WSE 2012 Dashboard recognize folders it did not create?

Perhaps I manually add back the Folders, then see if Syncback will find and use that folder and replace its files?

Or should I let Syncback add the folders back, with their files and somehow get the Dashboard to recognize folders it did not create and set the proper permissions and so forth?

I know this question is going to be a pain in the neck to answer, so I appreciate any help, info and suggestions.  Thanks!

Hi All,

We have three nodes cluster is running on our environment which has windows 2012 R2 OS.

Currently in the cluster file share had been configured. users are accessing the cluster shares through SMB Protocol. for the last more than six months cluster shares get disconnected automatically and it is not available to the users. If i just failover the cluster role/disk to another node, it will started to working fine and this issue occurs every 30 days.

Can you please suggest your solutions to over come on this issue.

DFSR Members not replicating, DFSRs.exe using 99% CPU

$

I have 3 DFSR members (1 primary, 1 backup and 1 remote site). The backup and remote site members have apparently stopped replicating. On the backup member, the DFSRs.exe process is constantly running at >99%, and its generating about 80MB of log files a minute. Scrolling through some of them, seems the majority of the log entries are of this type:

20160608 10:12:40.400 4172 JRWP   763 JournalWrapTask::MarkTopDown LDB Updating ID Record

Also noticed when I run a DFSR Health Report, on the backup member it doesn't list the disk volume where the replicated data resides:

I'm able to browse through the contents of the replicated data on the D: volume, so I know it's there.

In the logs for the remote site member, I see the same "JournalWrapTask::MarkTopDown LDB Updating ID Record" entries, and I also see a lot of:

Meet::CheckInSync -> WAIT Related record is under journal wrap recovery.

Do these log entries mean anything to anyone? Any ideas how I can troubleshoot further?

Thanks,

Shaun

Hello

I've got an windows 2012 r2 as a file server,  it worked fine with windows client but not with lunix-based client

I first discovered this problem on an Android phone:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b3a8a7f9-f4b7-4b9f-b586-2ec87fc14d71/cant-access-shared-folders-on-win-2012-r2-with-android-phone?forum=winserverPN

then I did some test on a newly installed lunix OS on a VM today, I found that my server do not response SMB Negotiate Protocol Request from my phone or the testing OS at all.

when I try smbclient -L ServerIP, I get

read_socket_with_timeout: timeout read. read error = Connection reset by peer.
Receiving SMB: Server stopped responding
protocol negotiation failed

the wireshark capture are like this:
